Our School
Established in 1959, Blairgowrie Primary School in Gavin Avenue, is ideally situated in the pleasant residential area in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg. Conveniently close to the Central Business District of Randburg, it enjoys easy access to the natural beauty of the bordering Delta Park Environmental Centre. The Scottish background of both suburb and school are represented in the three school houses: Atholl, Murray and Dundee.
Additionally, the winter uniform for both girls and boys incorporates the tartan of the Murray of Atholl. Click here to read the history of our tartan

The prevailing educational ethos of the School has as its foundation the recognition of the uniqueness and individuality of each child. Our Teaching practices strive to develop the Whole Person as the educational goal at Blairgowrie. Similarly, the vital role of the discipline is demonstrated in the simple approach to the School Rules which aim to cultivate respect for others and to foster an awareness of the implications of one's actions. All of this is reflected in the School's own Bill of Rights.
English is the medium of instruction.
Two languages - Afrikaans and Zulu - share equal second
language status. Religious Education is presented in such a
way that respect is engendered for all faiths and those
children outside the Christian faith are free to express
themselves without fear of reprisal.
The Management Team - which
incorporates Principal, Teachers and Governing Body -
strives not only to keep abreast of, but to be instrumental
in the formulation of new educational policies. Feedback
sessions regarding educational policy, finances and capital
expenditure, among others, are held to keep parents
informed.
